Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree of English literature. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. 1996, she was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News two year later. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. In 1992, she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for her journalism achievements, such as her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered a wide range of notable stories, including arms control the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She also went on numerous trips with the president Reagan to summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
