Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts to fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two record labels signing and subsequently dropping her before any material was released. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The title track was a jolly and sly song that attracted minimal interest. Perry became a bigger star in the following months with her single "I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual curiosity backed by a sharp electro-pop beat. It was not a popular song, as critics criticized the song for promoting relationships between gay men as well as others who claimed it depicted a sexually explicit scene that enticed men's fantasies about female sexuality. The combination of titillation, polished melody and a catchy chorus helped it become a top-ten hit across a range of nations. It led to The album, of the same name of the Boys (2007) which was a huge success. The sharp, energetic second single also proved well-loved. The album that Perry wrote in large part was sold to over 3 million people.
